Grizzlies rally late to take the season opener
A ninth-inning surge sends the home crowd into the parking lot still cheering.
Down four runs heading into the eighth, the Grizzlies looked headed for an opening-night loss in front of a sellout crowd. Then the bottom of the order did what the top of the order couldn't all night.
A leadoff double, a walk, and back-to-back singles cut the lead to one before a two-out, bases-loaded double down the left field line put Fresno ahead for good. The stadium — full for the first time since 2019 — didn't sit down for the rest of the inning.
“That's the loudest I've heard this place,” the Grizzlies' manager said afterward. “And I've been here twelve years.”
The win opens the season 1-0, with the home crowd already selling out next weekend's series against the division's defending champions.
